QYC’s Ocean Research Project Clean Regatta: May 3rd 2014 qyc flagemmpties bags

Quantico Yacht Club (QYC) hosts the Ocean Research Project Regatta, which kicks off the Potomac Yacht Racing Council (PYRC) season. This race, held the first Saturday in May, provides racers with the chance to get back into the swing of things, and the opportunity to start breaking in new crew.

QYC renamed its spring tune-up race to raise funds for and awareness of the Ocean Research Project, which will be conducting its Trans-Pacific Plastic Pollution Survey, the first ever continent-to-continent marine debris survey.  ORP collects data on our oceans’ most dangerous problems: chemical pollution, climate change, ocean acidification and biodiversity loss.

The Ocean Research Project is encouraging QYC to exhibit how they are stewards of the marine environment by holding a Clean Regatta certified by the Sailors for the Sea! Ocean Research Project will supply the recycle “EMPTIES” bags for each skipper and Heavy Seas will provide the beer.
